Varnish Removal Unit (VRU): Stop Bearing Temperature Spikes, Servo Sticking & High MPC at the Root

Standard mechanical filters cannot capture sub-micron insoluble gels or dissolved polar oxidation by-products. Whether you are facing an urgent DCS bearing temperature alarm (105°C–118°C) or an abnormal oil lab report (high MPC, NAS & water), Vifluter kidney-loop Varnish Removal Units strip out both dissolved and suspended varnish—and reverse-dissolve hard deposits already baked onto your Babbitt bearings and servo valves without shutting down your rotating unit.
Varnish Removal Unit

Varnish Removal Units: Typical Application Scenarios & Technical Limitations

Varnish shifts between dissolved polar molecules in warm oil (40°C–55°C) and suspended sub-micron precipitates in cooler zones (<20°C–30°C). Because no single filtration medium can ignore water contamination, heavy particle loads, or explosion-proof power constraints, we openly share both the ideal applications and the physical limitations of each unit below.
WVD SERIES · ELECTROSTATIC + DICR™ ION-EXCHANGE RESIN

WVD Electrostatic + Ion-Exchange Resin Varnish Removal Unit

Combines a circular high-voltage electrostatic field with DICR™ ion-exchange resin to remove both suspended sub-micron sludge and dissolved polar varnish (lowering MPC) simultaneously. Restores oil solvency in an offline kidney-loop to peel and re-dissolve hard deposits baked onto bearing pads without unit shutdown.

Typical Application Scenarios

Target Machinery: Petrochemical ethylene & cracked gas centrifugal compressors, syngas compressors, air separation units (ASU), and gas turbines (ISO VG 32/46).

Ideal Condition: Dry lube systems facing bearing temperature spikes (100°C–118°C), high MPC (>15), and high particle counts (NAS > 10).

Limitations & Operating Boundaries

Dry Oil Only: Removes varnish and fine particulates only; strictly not suitable for oil with free water or high moisture (>100 ppm).

Moisture Boundary: Excess water triggers the PLC leakage-current interlock and saturates the resin bed (drain settled bottom water before startup).

WVDJ SERIES · ELECTROSTATIC + DICR™ RESIN + COALESCENCE DEHYDRATION

WVDJ Multifunctional Dehydration & Varnish Removal Unit

Integrates imported 100% synthetic coalescing and two-stage separation elements ahead of the electrostatic and DICR™ ion-exchange resin chambers. Coalesces and drains free and emulsified water before oil enters the varnish stages—protecting the resin and electrostatic field from moisture failure while continuously stripping sub-micron sludge and dissolved varnish without shutdown.

Typical Application Scenarios

Target Machinery: Steam turbines, petrochemical drive steam turbines, expanders, and rotating machinery in high-humidity plants with chronic shaft gland steam leakage.

Ideal Condition: Turbines facing co-existing water ingress (>100–500 ppm, emulsified oil), high particle counts (NAS > 10), and severe bearing varnish buildup.

Limitations & Operating Boundaries

Coalescence Separation Limit: Efficiently separates free and emulsified water, but cannot flash-evaporate trace dissolved moisture down to ultra-low ppm levels or replace vacuum purifiers in catastrophic boiler/cooler water floods.

Footprint & Flow Boundary: Larger skid footprint than dry-only WVD; ensure regular drainage of the water collection sump during high steam leakage periods.

WMN SERIES · BALANCED-CHARGE DEPTH MEDIA (WATER + PARTICULATE + VARNISH)

WMN Balanced-Charge Depth Media Fine Filtration Unit

Engineered with multi-layered high-density cellulose depth media elements featuring tortuous micro-capillary paths. In a single continuous kidney-loop pass, WMN absorbs dissolved and trace emulsified moisture, intercepts solid particulate down to 1–3 μm, and electrostatically polar-adsorbs oxidation by-products and varnish gels—delivering an all-in-one, compact preventive maintenance solution for small and medium lube reservoirs.

Typical Application Scenarios

Target Machinery: Small-to-medium hydraulic power units (HPUs), turbine EHC/governor oil reservoirs, gearboxes, injection molding machines, and auxiliary rotating machinery in steel, chemical, and paper mills.

Ideal Condition: Smaller reservoir volumes (<2,000–3,000 L) with simultaneous moderate moisture, fine particulates, and light-to-medium varnish potential requiring economical, continuous offline polishing.

Limitations & Operating Boundaries

Inherent Low Flow Rate: To maintain deep media tortuosity and capillary adsorption, flow velocity must be kept low. Cannot keep pace with varnish formation in large turbine reservoirs (10–40 m³) or high-thermal bearings where oxidation outpaces kidney-loop turnover.

Consumable Saturation: In systems with severe water intrusion (>1,000 ppm) or heavy sludge loads, dense depth elements will saturate rapidly, significantly increasing replacement frequency compared to regenerable electrostatic or resin systems.
